Weld Co. School District RE-1 Valley High School – New Greenhouse

Our Portfolio
Project Description

This project consisted of a ~4,200 square-foot greenhouse

and improving the site with ADA accessibility from the school to the greenhouse and the school track. They already had two greenhouses on the property, but the previous two were decommissioned once the new greenhouse was substantially complete. The project is located in Weld County which has one of the largest school districts in the state of Colorado. We started work on the greenhouse in January 2021 and finished in May 2021. This project was a lump sum contract, so it was a little bit of a different pace than projects with other contracting methods.

Strategy
The initial timing of the project was a challenge due to pouring concrete during the coldest and snowiest week of 2021! Due to the frozen temperatures, we utilized ground thawers onsite to thaw the ground which helped the backfill process. When the weather warmed up, we reconditioned the dirt as needed to achieve proper compaction and made sure our tests come back positive. We have certain soil density tests we must pass before we pour the concrete slab, so the warmer weather during the following months was relief. Having the compaction right in the soil helps prevent the slab from settling or heaving over time.
